Saint Charles apartment complex to receive a makeover for over $2 million

Saint Charles, MI – February 17, 2021 – PK Companies, a family-based real estate firm in Okemos, MI, is investing over $2 million in the rehabbing of Arbor Glen Apartments in Saint Charles, MI.

Interior work began on February 13 and exterior work began prior. The projected completion date of the construction will be in May or June.

The rehab project entails replacing roofing, siding, windows, flooring, trim, appliances, plumbing and light fixtures, cabinets, vanities, countertops, doors, as well as painting. Oakwood Construction out of Okemos, MI was hired for the construction work.

The new construction will achieve Enterprise Green status. According to their website, “Enterprise Green Communities, the standard for sustainable futures, is the nation’s only national green building program designed explicitly for green affordable housing construction.”

The project will use funds awarded from the IRS Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) Program.

Residents will stay with friends or family during the construction or will stay at a provided hotel room.

Arbor Glen is an affordable rural development property with 48 units. It consists of two two-story-high buildings and two one-story buildings of one- and two-bedroom apartments. It was built in 1986. This community is a short distance from shopping, dining, golfing, and entertainment attractions. Each floorplan offers generous living space along with a fully equipped kitchen. Property amenities include parking, laundry facilities, and 24-hour maintenance services. It is a smoke-free and pet-free community as well. Water, sewer, and trash is free to residents. Rents are based on income and Section 8 vouchers are accepted. A barrier-free and rental subsidy waiting list are available.

The Arbor Glen Apartments project is part of a larger development project with a total of 10 properties scattered throughout Michigan. The total construction cost for all 10 will be approximately $25,000,000.
